Welcome to Dumfries Academy’s website. The Academy has a rich and distinguished history and traces its roots back to 1330 when John of Greyfriars set up a school in the town. Today it provides an excellent education for young people from Dumfries Burgh and the surrounding area. The school is proud of the range and diversity of our curriculum and of the success which our pupils have in national examinations. We are also proud of our pupils’ achievements in a wide range of extra-curricular activities including sport, art, drama, music, sciences, essay writing, debate and in a host of other competitions. We aim to create an environment in which every pupil will flourish by acquiring and developing the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and behaviours which they need for life.
