LIBRARY RESOURCE CENTRE RESOURCES

The Library holds resources to cover all subject areas and also reading and video/dvds for enjoyment.

Fiction books are arranged alphabetically by the surname of the Author; whilst Non-fiction books are arranged in Dewey Decimal order (each subject area has its own number). Reference books are also arranged in Dewey Decimal order. Fiction and Non-fiction books can be taken out for up to 3 weeks at a time and can be renewed if no one else is waiting for its return. Senior students who need to study a fiction book for Higher English are able to keep the book for the duration of the study period necessary.

The Library Catalogue of all resources is available to access at all times; it can be accessed from any computer within the school. It is called Searchstar, it can be found within Desk Tools in the Library folder. Items presently on the shelf are in back ink, items overdue are in red ink and items in blue ink are currently on loan to a student/member of staff.

Videos/DVDS are loaned for one night (except of course on Fridays).

Audio cassette tapes can be borrowed for up to three weeks.

Certain magazines and all maps may be borrowed when needed for projects, the maximum time for these also being three weeks.

It is the responsibility of the student to return all resources borrowed from the Library and we seek the help of parents and guardians in this matter. If a resource is severely damaged or lost, the student is expected to pay for its replacement.

If a student wishes to borrow a resource which is out, it can be reserved with Mrs. Rendell and she will inform their Tutor when the resource is returned.

There is also a suite of 30 computers which students can access before school, after school and during class periods. They all have access to the internet and email and many software packages.
