Easter School 2011
14th March 2011 Due to the well publicised cutbacks in the education budget, it was announced earlier in the school year that there would be no Easter School in 2011.
However, a very low absence rate among staff at Dumfries Academy means that a surplus exists in our devolved cover budget. This is enabling us to offer an Easter School after all.
We appreciate that this year’s version is being offered at short notice and that students may have made plans for the holidays on the understanding that no such programme was running. Similarly, teaching staff have in some cases also planned to be away at this time. This is why some subjects are also on offer during the second week of the holidays, whereas in previous years, all lessons have been confined to the first week.
Pupils will be issued with timetables in school this week. Further details will also be sent out by post.

SCHOOL CLOSURE: FROM COUNCIL WEBSITE
All schools across Dumfries and Galloway will not be opening today (8 December) due to the severe weather forecasted.
Severe gales are expected to hit our region around 10am on Thursday 8 December. Gusts of up to 90mph are expected and a severe weather warning will be in place until 6am on Friday 9 December.
Winds will increase during Thursday morning with severe gales developing across many northern and central parts of the UK.
The risk of disruption is considered highest across central and southern Scotland where the police are advising that conditions for travel will be extremely poor and that travellers are likely to experience significant delays.
Winds should tend to ease from the west on Thursday night with the severe gales becoming confined to NE Scotland by the early hours of Friday.
Heavy rain and hill snow are additional hazards that will accompany the gales.
There are still some uncertainties in the exact location of the most damaging winds, so please check the latest forecasts before travelling.
For more details on the severe weather warnings go to:
